Mentoring begins with spending time and building a relationship.
Building a relationship begins by showing up at the worksite, meeting apprentices, shadowing, and having conversations. Invite one to meet for a meal, get to know them, share your own experiences, identify ways you can help, and set a regular meeting time. Mentoring isn’t forced or formal—it grows naturally from openness, shared interests, and a genuine desire to be supportive.
One-on-One Time
Any apprentice would benefit from dedicated time focused on building practical life skills, including coping strategies, budgeting and expense tracking, saving, planning for future financial needs (e.g., transportation, insurance, housing), banking, researching resources, and maintaining vehicles, housing, and personal belongings. As trust develops, relationship issues may also be addressed.
Lunch and Learns
Mentor our trainees by participating in our bi-weekly Lunch and Learn series. It features diverse topics and speakers, and content can range from Bible studies, financial education, character ethics, and much more. You can also host field trips to your business, so our trainees can get a first hand look at potential career locations. If you would like to host and/or speak at a Lunch and Learn, email Tom Heffner at theffner@franklintonrising.org
