Franklinton Rising’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program is designed for young adults ages 17–24 who are navigating economic hardship and have a curiosity or interest in construction and the trades.
Successful applicants are ready to invest time and develop skills that will make them attractive candidates to great employers who can help them launch a career in the building trades.
Get paid and learn skills to help launch a career in construction!
Train 10-30 hours per week, and learn life and basic construction skills
Make a minimum of $11.50 per hour and earn pay increases when you demonstrate learning, being prepared and on time, following instructions, working hard, asking questions, and being helpful
Participate in classroom training 3 hours per week over several weeks
Help build affordable housing units for rent and sale in the marketplace
Job readiness coaching (interviews, resumes, employer expectations) and direct introductions to construction companies until you’re hired
Other key apprenticeship benefits include:
- No pre-requisite experience, skills, or equipment necessary
- Exposure to, and various amounts of experience in, areas including: framing, installing flooring, dry wall, painting, windows and doors, trim, cabinetry, electrical wiring, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, siding, and landscaping
- Access to individuals who will help mentor you in all life issues
- Receive support services, such as driver’s training, partial funding for the down-payment of an automobile, short-term housing, and counseling
- Request coaching after being hired if or as needed
Our Pre-Apprenticeship Classroom Program is certified through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and contains content to help each apprentice prepare for full-time employment.
Over the course of nine weeks, participants complete classroom instruction covering:
- Basic construction safety
- OSHA 10 certification
- Construction math
- Reading construction documents
- Workplace communication
- Financial literacy
- Core employability skills
Upon completing the program, participants receive an official Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate from the State of Ohio. If they are hired into a state-registered apprenticeship program, the hours earned during this pre-apprenticeship will automatically count toward their apprenticeship—giving them a head start over others entering the trades.
